Live aus Berlin (part I)

So... we're back from Berlin!! It's been a lovely time thare, woth snow and cold but not the cold I was expecting... I can't believe I'm back to Barcelona! it was so awesome... I don't know where to start!

So I guess that the best thing is start from the begining...

Germany is totally different to Spain. I was completely captivated, and I cannot help getting excited when I think I'll come back, maybe in spring or early summer. In fact I'm seriously considering spending the summer there, I'm sure is that's wonderful experience ...
I mean, I'm sure Berlin has its good and its bad things, but I definitely want to live in this town for a while and experience being a real "European", live a different culture from mine, which promotes recycling, Vegetarian food and social projects ...

Anyway, we arrived to Schönefeld airport on friday, and we get the tickets to the SBahn, just for going into the Ostkreuz station at Berlin, where my cousin Rocío was waiting for us with little Kora, her dog!

Laia and Albert at the train.

Tierpark is the place where we were staying, at my friend Jorge's house... so Rocío took us to that place. We left the suitcases and went to dinner to Friedrichstein, where she's living at the moment. We had one of the most lovely pizzas that I ever had... and I was so hungry that I didn't take a picture of it, sorry! But I took some from the restaurant, full of thanks notes...

Of course we leave a note...

An finally Rocío took us into Roses, a awesome pub in the heart of Berlin... I couldnt take so much pictures, but what you're seeing in the frist one is a wall ful of pink plush fabric...

Rocío and Albert.

So, this was our first day there... and on saturday... we had lot of snow...

But I'll talk about it tomorrow!!

Oh, by the way... this is what I was wearing that day... thanks to Laia for the pictures on the airport!

Cardigan - H&M
Stripes knit - Zara
Jumper - Zara (old)
Black tights - H&M
Boots - Aces of London
Beret - Primark
Red bow - Claire's (old)

So, today was my first "official" day at Barcelona, and I went with my Micky to Hard Rock Cafe, where we ate a great burguers and a lovely desserts... cheescake and chocolate mousse!

Micky and I before eating our burguers! Mine was with apple, yummy!

By the way, this is what I was wearing today... My new Ben Sherman's coat, bought at Berlin (I love sales, it was 70% off!); and my new Criminal Damage dress!

Coat - Ben Sherman
Jumper - Criminal Damage
Shirt - Blanco
Socks - Alice and the Pirates (Baby the Stars Shine Bright)

Johnny Rockets, what not to say to a sports legend, and how many Twitter followers everybody has

January 21

Thanks a lot, Twitter followers.

A week ago I tweeted the following: “Introducing Joe Theismann tonight at launch of Johnny Rockets Sports Lounge on UES. Was told to ask him about punting. Good idea, right?”

Did anyone warn me? Did anyone point out that the football legend, on one bad day in his mostly extraordinary career, famously kicked a punt of approximately one yard and that to bring it up, as countless others no-doubt do all the time, would be rude?

No, they did not.

One follower, InsideFandB, basically said “hey, that guy took my pen,” but otherwise, my approximately 1,600 followers — and you know who you are — were silent. Not a word of warning that I might hurt the feelings of a man whose feelings don’t deserve to be hurt and who, although now 60 years old, could easily fold me up into a pretzel and toss me out of the nearest window without breaking a sweat.

Chris Matthews was the one who suggested I bring up the punt. Not that Chris Matthews, wine writer Chris Matthews, who contributes to the New York Law Journal, among other publications, and is husband of food writer Kathryn Matthews. They’re a lovely couple.

We were at the 15th anniversary party of i Trulli, standing around, eating gnocchi and cavatelli and whatnot.

I met the restaurant’s executive chef, Patti Jackson. A pastry chef by training (most recently at Alto under Scott Conant, so not that recently), she told me about how she struggled to make perfect orecchiette — the little flat, round pasta with a name that literally means “small ears.” She was working meticulously, as pastry chefs do, to perfect each and every piece, and she was fretting about her inability to do so to the Italian woman who was teaching her, who finally said, “just shut up and make the pasta!”

Anyway, I told Chris and Kathryn that I would be introducing Joe Theismann at the opening of Johnny Rockets’ new sports lounge, Chris made the punting remark — obviously joking — and I thought I’d see if my Twitter followers cared about me.

I learned that they don’t.

Theismann seemed like a nice guy, though. He shook my hand and I asked him about his restaurant career, which started in 1975, when he was in the second year of his football career, as the Washington Redskins’ third-string quarterback.

Restaurateurs in Alexandria, Va., were looking for someone to lend his name to their restaurant and Theismann threw his hat in the ring. They asked why they should use his name when he was virtually a nobody. He told them it couldn’t get any worse.

Of course, he became a football legend, and the restaurant was a success. Theismann sold out of it in 1990, but a couple of years ago he came back into the restaurant business as a member of Johnny Rockets' board of directors.

The PR people at the burger chain had asked me to use my negligible star power (remember my 1,600 Twitter followers? Yeah well Frank Bruni as of this writing has 4,657, “Amateur Gourmet” Adam Roberts has nearly 6,000 and Tyler Florence has 182,429) to introduce Mr. Theismann, who used his considerable star power to introduce John Fowler, the proud father of Bryanna and McKenna Fowler, as the new president and chief executive of Johnny Rockets.

Joe Theismann does not appear to have a Twitter account, but I reckon that he has more star power even than Tyler Florence anyway.

John Fowler a big sports fan. He was in New York on a sort of media tour, talking to journalists like me, appearing on Bloomberg TV, meeting people at Time magazine.

I’m told that the Time meeting was a particular thrill for him because he was in the same offices as Sports Illustrated, a magazine of which he has every copy since he started reading it at age 12.

John’s such a big sports fan that when news of the sports lounge reached his friends, they told him that it had his fingerprints all over it.

John pointed out to them, however, that he’d only been CEO for a few days, which is not enough time to conceive of and execute a new restaurant concept.

Basically, it’s a regular Johnny Rockets on the ground floor, and then upstairs is a full bar, typical bar snacks like nachos and spring rolls and cheese sticks, a lounge area and a bunch of giant TVs.

The opening party seemed to be a success. A bunch of franchisees were there, and a bit of media. I had a fairly long chat with lawyer Andy Freedman, who with his wife, lawyer Jill Freedman, does the blog Wined and Dined and has 1,245 Twitter followers, as he snacked on cheeseburgers and such. He wondered if the Upper East Side really needed another sports bar.

It’s a fair question, and one to which I suspect Johnny Rockets Sports Lounge will find the answer.

Hale and Hearty, Scottish Venison and Vegetable Stew

Scottish Venison and Vegetable StewThis is the sort of hale and hearty, traditional Scottish stew that would regularly have been consumed in Rabbie Burns' time, made not necessarily with venison but - perhaps more commonly - with maybe beef or lamb. As Burns' birthday of course fell at one of the coldest times of the year in Scotland, it is not difficult to imagine him and his family seated around the open fire, upon which a stew such as this simmered in a cast iron pot.

This is therefore a recipe which is prepared as it would have been centuries ago. There are no modern chemicals in it (as there rarely are in my recipes) and there are no complicated appliances required in order to make it. This recipe quantity should provide a great meal for two people at any time of year but particularly on a cold, Winter's night.

Ingredients

1lb diced Scottish venison loin
1/2lb small potatoes
1/2 turnip
1 large carrot
2 pints fresh beef stock
2 tbsp plain (all-purpose, in USA) flour
1oz butter
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method

The first step is to put the beef stock on to heat while the venison is prepared. The venison chunks should be washed in cold water to remove the excess blood, then dried with paper kitchen towel or a clean tea towel. The flour should then be added to a bowl, seasoned well with salt and pepper and the venison pieces dipped in to coat them lightly. The butter should be melted in the stew pot and the venison added to quickly brown and seal over a medium heat. The hot stock should be poured in, brought back to a simmer and the simmer maintained for two hours, with only an occasional stir required as well as a check on the liquid level. Hot water should be added, as and if required.

The skin should be left on the potatoes but the turnip should be peeled and the carrot scraped. The vegetables should then be chopped to an approximately uniform size of about one inch chunks. After the venison has been simmering for two hours, the vegetables should be added to the pot along with more water if required and the stew simmered for a further half hour before being served immediately in bowls, while still piping hot.

How to Make Soda Scones: Food Tip of the Day - Thursday, January 21st, 2010

A Piece of Soda SconeAlthough they may not look the most mouth-wateringly attractive creations in the world, soda scones are absolutely delicious and can be served with so many different types of food. They can be eaten with butter and jam, cheese, or used to dip in to soups and stews. There is also an interesting fact about soda scones in that they are the original form of Scottish bread, dating back to the days before ovens, when they were made on iron skillets over an open fire.

How to Make Traditional Scottish Soda Scones

spread love with zeke

Hello fellas :)
Long time i can't update hihi
Nah kebetulan saya sedang menunggu hujan menjemput saya pulang dari kebosanan.
Anywaaay gue mau cerita.
Maaan, sereeem gue. ahaha.
Lalu, gue dikasih alamat emailnya sama Bang Pani, si sensei.
Nah gue mau ngeemail aja gugup. Zzz

ahahaha melihat aksi sekantor provoke memprovokasi kegalauan sensei Yudhi Arfani
That's great film i think.
Dan gue senang sekali hari itu. sampe lupa, gue belum tidur sama sekali dari Selasa.
Dudududu.
