This Drama...

About This Drama:

"Yes, you know how it works. The beginning, the process, the magic... boring. Then, the promo stuff, the product, the lie. Man, being in a rock'n'roll band is really cool.
This Drama has been out there for a while. Born and raised in a small island in the middle of the Atlantic, we all meet when we were young, at shows, rehearsals, spending our time together in some shity bands. Sweet.
We have put out a few records and cd's, done some tours, canceled a couple of shows including a hippy summertime festival. We have played for 25000 people. We have played for 3 people. You all should have seen us play. Always exhausted. We used to wish it would never end.
Many people love what we do. Most hate it. We do not give a shit about 'the scene', about 'the kids'. Yes, especially those wearing their own band tshirts.

So what are we? what do we do now? The music will flow.

Fuck your local scene. Or something."

I went today to a concert; yes, another one. But this one was different, because I met a band that left me with my mouth open: This Drama.

This Drama mix a sound that reminds me to The (International) Noise Conspiracy, but with more punk and a USA style that gives them a unique point. I really recomend you to visit their Myspace, because they're really gorgeous!

Here you can see someof the pics I took today, but at my Flickr you can see a bunch more (in colour, mostly). Please, take a look at them and tell me your opinion!

The last one are Asdrubal's arms, with his tattoos... I guess that Hedi Slimane is having some influence on me...

And things that I liked from today:

Sandra, Asdrubal's girlfriend; one of the loveliest persons I've ever met!
The messages from some people at the concert...
Cute people!
Nati's shoes!
Nati's car!
My vegan noodles...
... and Maxie doing the dumb with them!
My sailor cardigan, wich I'll show you soon!
M pseudo-navy day!
T-shirt - Handmade
Shorts - Zara
Socks - Calzedonia (old)
Shoes - Melissa
Headscarf - Vintage

I hope that everybody had a gorgeous saturday... I think that I'm gettin sick, but anyway I'm staying at home tonight and wait for the final episode of Lost... are you seeing it?

And by the way, thank you so much for your lovely comments; I must replied them, I know; because you all deserve it... you're lovely!!!

And one thing more: Laia has posted something on her blog that I think you may read, so please, have a look an share your opinion. I can't be more agree with her in everything she wrote... I'm not a clone, I'm not a robot and I don't want to fight in the clone fashion wars!!

Giddy With Anticipation

So, I went on a Caribbean cruise a few weeks ago and it was gloriously hot and sunny and wonderful. I love Love LOVE hot weather; so maybe living in Canada isn't exactly the best choice climate-wise. It's now the middle of May and I've spent the last two weeks cursing our building for shutting the heat off the weekend we came back as it during a warm spell, but then the temperature plummeted immediately afterward. I've been sleeping in fleece pajamas ever since. FLEECE.

Anyway, the weather seems to (finally) be creeping back into the twenties and I'm getting so excited for summer. Not only for the warm weather but also for the produce that will soon be available at the farmer's market. CORN. PEACHES. And TOMATOES!

You can obviously buy tomatoes year round, but they're so depressingly flavourless in the winter that sometimes I wonder why we even bother. They're nothing like the summer tomatoes that are so plump, juicy and delicious you can just eat them plain with a little sprinkling of salt and be in heaven. Or with some buffalo mozzarella for a nice Caprese salad. Drool.

Laura and I helped her mom make some delicious oven-roasted tomatoes at the end of last summer with the multiple bushels they had gotten from a local farm. They were sooo good and froze very well. The combination of garlic, basil and the oven created a delicious concentrated and caramelized flavour that was amazing in sauces, pizzas and whatever else you might use tomatoes for. I think that this summer we'll have to make some more so that I can have delicious tomatoes for recipes all winter long. Brilliant!

Note: If you are wondering why the photos in this post are not the usual level of pathetic photography that I tend to put out, it's because these were taken by Laura with her much, much better camera and photography skills in general. Thanks Laura!

Another Note: This is a sketchy recipe. We DID use a recipe from a book, but lost it so I'm really just guessing here. But oven roasting tomatoes isn't exactly rocket science. See conversation below re: the lost recipe...

Laura: my mom says she doesnt remember the tomato recipe
but its just like cut up tomatoes, deseed, cover in olive oil, basil and garlic

20 minutes
3:02 PM me: damn
yea, i know the basics but i like to have a recipe
3:03 PM does she know what temp/time?

36 minutes
3:39 PM Laura: roasted... i imagine hot
for twenty minutes
till they are roasty

So yea. I'm pretty sure we actually baked them for longer than 20 minutes. There are also many recipes for slow roasting tomatoes in the oven. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what the main differences are. I imagine slow roasting would build up more caramelized flavour and intensity but I had absolutely no complaints on these ones either.

Oven Roasted Tomatoes

Tomatoes (we used Plum tomatoes)
Garlic
Fresh Basil
Salt and Pepper
Olive Oil

Preheat oven to 425 degrees Farenheit

1. Cut off tops of tomatoes and cut in half lengthwise. Use a paring knife to remove seeds.

2. Mince garlic and chop up basil.

3. Lay tomato halves on a baking sheet, cut side up. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle on garlic, basil and salt and pepper. I'm sorry I can't tell you how much, just don't use too much salt and pepper as the other ingredients will release plenty of flavour during baking.

4. Bake for 40 (or possibly 20) minutes until tomatoes start to look wrinkled, or "roasty".

malaysian culture : supper

Since I've been living ini Kuala Lumpur, I know that gained a lot weights. :)
You know, Malaysian foods are just so delish to me!
But dont ever give me Briyani rice! I hate to smell it! Ewwwww.. >.< Feel like wanna puke..

One Malaysian style, supper! [eat up to 10pm]
Banyak tempat makan yang buka 24 hours karena banyak yang makan tengah malam.
As you know, we dont have car and gak bisa keluar tengah malam hanya buat makan. (Karena kalo iya, bakal diculik sopir taxi, haha..)
Hanya Tat Yang yg selalu ngajakin kita supper. Minggu lalu dia ngajakin kita makan di Kayu, Mamak Food.
And guess what we ate..
Roti Tissue!
wooosh so long right?
haha..

Salmon Omelette-Crepe-Pizza

Good evening England, France & Italy!

It's raining a bit here in Saigon and I realized that I've been living in this chaotic city of motorbike for a year now. Tonight I did again my recent favorite concoction. It was surprisingly a lip-smacking dish. The common reaction I get when I have this dish tasted among good friends-- they said that the taste is confusing but in a good way. Indescribable taste that you cannot identify so you just keeps slicing a piece of it from time to time. Actually that's the intention. Capturing three of my favorite comfort foods in one dish. Obviously I like English Omelette, French Crepe & Italian Pizza--- so that's the reason why this dish was born. The Mozzarella cheese and toppings of either Salmon or Bacon will surely makes this dish more gorgeous! And don't forget to put in some Tabasco's on top.

SALMON OMELETTE-CREPE-PIZZA

Ingredients:

• Salmon (thinly sliced)
• Eggs
• Milk & Flour
• Mozarella Cheese
• Basil / Marjoram
• Salt & Pepper
• Tabascos
• Butter (of course)

Procedure:

Beat eggs in a big bowl then slowly add the milk and a little of flour. Beat them all together then add salt. Heat your teflon pan in medium temperature then melt butter. Add the beaten mixture of egg/milk/flour. Turn the pan in low heat. Let it cook for 3 minutes then top it with Salmon. Next, add Basil/Marjoram/Pepper then sprinkle it with Mozzorella cheese. Cover the pan and allow it cook for 5-8 minutes under low heat. When the cheese melted, turn the heat in high temperature and remove the cover. Allow the flame heats for 30 seconds then it's ready. Slice it like a pizza then add some tabascos!

Hope you enjoy this confused dish of mine :)
