Aussie Day - Saigon Celebration!

This is the Kangaroo like cake I bought in a French bakeshop here in Saigon called Tous Les Jours.

The big and small bread bun for the English Onion soup I learned from my idol, Jamie Oliver. Of course the Fusilli Pesto, the sausages and pork are part of the dinner meal. I marinated the pork in Coopers stout beer and vanilla ice cream. I can say the tenderness of the porky is sooo awesome. Can't wait to do this recipe again.

Since it's an impromptu celebration, I didn't cook much. Though what I cooked is still too much for me to eat it by myself. So I invited one friend. It increased unexpectedly into four. The night was indeed a good dinner and a simple way to celebrate Ozzie Day. Yay!

'Til next time me dear mates!!!

What Should I Have After Dinner Tonight? : Food Tip of the Day - Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Gaelic CoffeeIt is perhaps the case that all too often we focus upon what we should eat for dinner at night and never give thought to how we may relax after it and round our meal off in style with an appropriate beverage. Coffee and tea - or even port! - are widely touted and consumed but this recipe idea is something which is little known outside Scotland. Although Irish coffee has been consumed around the world since its humble beginnings in County Limerick, Gaelic coffee remains largely confined to Scotland.

The precise preparation instructions for Gaelic coffee can be found via the link below:

How To Make Gaelic Coffee

There is an amusing story which I often relate with regards to Gaelic coffee. I am not going to name and shame but suffice to say that a number of years ago I ordered a Gaelic coffee in a prominent Perthshire hotel, asking the waiter at the time of ordering whether I had a choice of single malts with which it be prepared. The young man did not know, so hurried off to find out. He returned moments later to apologetically announce that - unfortunately - I did not, as all the Gaelic coffees in the hotel were prepared with the same single malt: Grouse!

For those less familiar with Scotch whisky, much as it can and does provide an excellent drinking experience, The Famous Grouse is a blended whisky, not a single malt...

Although at the time I bit my tongue and said nothing, I am not so sure that I would be so forgiving nor understanding of such an establishment's compromising, penny-pinching techniques at this stage of my life...

Below is an entertaining little video, espousing the traditional Scottish affection for whisky. I have been to Campbeltown Loch many times - but being as greedy as I am, I would prefer that it were Loch Ness or Loch Lomond that consisted of whisky...

Dog name meanings...

Since I am sitting here looking at names, I ran across our dogs names. I thought it would be fun to list them and what they mean. So here it goes...

Denali - Great One
Caspian - Of the Caspy People (Prince Caspian from Narnia is much better :P).
Cody - Descendant of Oda (okay, a little weird).
Jadis - Thank goodness that one wasn't listed on the baby site. Don't think or hope a parent would want to name their kid after the White Witch in Narnia. lol

Babies..... babies......

So with everyone around me pregnant I decided to start looking at baby names and find ones I like. I already had a few that I like, but you have to have options you know! So here are the ones I have found so far.

Girls:
Emma
Abigail
Amelia
Alaina (David doesn't like this one though)

As you can see I have only made it through the list of A names really. Emma was one I had picked out already.

Boys:
Caleb
Joshua
Zachery

No, I don't need to be picking out names any time soon, but it is still fun to look at them and bug David about it! :-D
