Back to school/work!

Summer is mostly over and on Monday I went back to work for the next school year. For those of you who don't know, I am an Occupational Therapy Assistant and I work full time for a local county and I am contracted to 2 local school districts. I work with special education kiddos. I really enjoy what I do. It is a little different working in the schools, since I never actually went to public school. However, the transition has not been hard. :)

This year one of my schools built a new school building, so I have a new therapy room/office. I am sharing it with one of the special education teachers. She and I are both very organized people so we are getting a long quite well! Here is a picture of my new room.

This was right when I got there, so it is put together a little bit better now. I will be sure to take more pictures next week. I still have to get all my files together, but most of the boxes are un-packed and organized now! So glad the girl I am sharing the room with is organized too! I would go crazy it things weren't!

How much are local ingredients worth to you?

August 17

For my latest poll, I’d like to ask you how much more you’d be willing to spend for local products in restaurants. Polls being polls, they’re imprecise, so please comment below if you have something to say about what local ingredients are worth paying for (seasonal grapes or corn, say) and which ones aren’t (I don’t know, ketchup maybe).

Thank you.

Regarding my last poll, about what you thought Seamus Mullen would do next now that he has left Boqueria, most readers had no interest in such speculation, but here are the results from the seven voters:

Open a cute snout-to-tail restaurant in New York 3 (42%)

Open a cute snout-to-tail restaurant in another city 1 (14%)

Launch a new burger concept with hopes of turning it into a chain 1 (14%)

Get a job at a country club to make money and live a less hectic life 0 (0%)

Leave foodservice to become a full-time celebrity chef, possibly with a gig on Dancing with the Stars. 0 (0%)

Become a chef at someone else’s restaurant, possibly with Danny Meyer or Steve Hanson 0 (0%)

Something else. 2 (28%)

Things you can do with your friends during a long weekend (part I)

I've spent all my weekend with Jairo, Curro and Rose at Tarifa. My uncle has got a house there and he let us stay there from sunday until today, so without doubt we took the car and stay there for these two days.

So, things you can do in good company at Tarifa...

1. Drink sangrĂa watching the sunset.

2. Sleep in a beautiful house.

3. Have dinner in a vegetarian restaurant where everything is delicious.

4. Keep the pose.

5. See the night lights of Africa at the other side of the coast.

(Yes, the back lights are from Africa)

6. Drink and dance.

7. Take pictures of ourselves.

8. Dress like a pin up sailor.

T shirt - Women' Secret
Shorts - Zara
Sandals - Women' Secret

My Crowning Glory

Hi everyone, Well the Scott's show is over. I always get a mix of feeling about it being over. In one respect I like doing the show, and talking and having fun with other dealers. On the other hand its a lot of work. I'm relaxing today and cleaning my house, nothing else to do today being its kind of misty and rainy. I feel kind of melancholy, so I might as well keep busy. I want to show you my best purchase at the show, my newest crown. As you all know I love crowns (I try to keep the number down, after all I think the Queen of England would have a hard time keeping up with me if I got everyone I loved). This is the same type that Shabby Chic used to have (I love Shabby Chic the store, but I'm not paying $200.00 for a crown. I'm an addict, not insane). Every time I would go in there I wanted one, but could not justify that much money for a tcokche (I hope I spelled it right). So I said to myself I'll get it one day. When I started doing Scott's I noticed in Amy's booth she had the same crown for a lot less. It took me a while to do it, but I finally just went for it, I'm glad I did. It looks perfect on the coffee table in the silver bowl with the shells (where the smaller crown was).
Great old rusty details and the stones look old also. Why look for one in Europe when you can find great reproductions on the market for a lot less (Anyway how many real and old crowns are floating around).
If you are interested in your own crown, contact Amy at http://www.hiveforthehome.com/ and tell her you are interested in a crown, as they are not on the website. Tell her you saw it on The Swedish Room (sorry it won't get you a discount, she just wants to see how many of you respond).
Oh and the other crown, it found a good home. BTW she sells this one too.
See everyone next time........
