Holy cow!, look at those ...

As a government servant, in every Thursday we are required to wear cloth using the national fabric; the batik. Particularly, we can only wear Malaysian Batik, not the Indonesian one, or Hawaiian Batik, or what ever batik available in the world.

So we either go for the Batik Canting, which can be very expensive sometimes or batik tekap, which is not that expensive but if you wanted to look like you are wearing your mother's kain batik kemban to work, it is really up to you. Feel free to do so.

It so happen yesterday, i was wearing batik and i had to invigilate an exam in a hall which can be mistakenly identified as a refrigerator. It was so bloody cold inside it, i went to the toilet 3-4 times. Well basically i went to the toilet to smoke. Nevertheless..

Anyway, i realised something later what cold weather can have effect to your body system. It gets everything erected. Somehow our body react to the cold temparatures and increases its own termometer. If you know what i mean.

Hik

he he he.

that is one bloody fat hand isnt it?

Notice something?

Anyway, that is my Batik shirt. Orange and amber with butterfly motive on the side. I like the overall design, except for the peach coloured arm pieces which somehow does not really goes with the design.

Notice anything just yet?

Let me zoom the picture for our viewing pleasure.

Stop! here if you are under 13

Parental guidance are needed.

That is my bloody tit! protruding under the very thin layer of the clothes. My goodness i have been walking along the examination hall like a pornstar bimbo for 3 hours. I wonder if any students will be having nightmares later after seeing that and had to visit a psychiatrist to minimise their phobia.

So moral of the story is,

please wear t-shirt under your batik cloth if you have sensitive tits that will react with the cold weather.

p/s: No wonder my thursday class students were always happy, chirpy and smiling no matter what my mood was, and no wonder they are not looking at my eyes when i am talking to them because they were looking at something else.

Quinoa: A Protein-Packed Alternative to Grains

Check this out in the New York Times nytimes.com

"Quinoa (pronounced keh-NO-ah or, sometimes, KEEN-wah) is a relative newcomer to the American pantry. The tiny, ancient Peruvian seed, which has a mild, nutty flavor, is related to leafy green vegetables and is often used like a grain. Quinoa is as versatile as rice but it has a protein content that is superior to that of most grains, because it contains all the essential amino acids."

"Pasta with sparacelli assassunati"

Another typical dish of Palermo is "a pasta with sparaceddi assassunati."

The "sparacelli" is a particular type of broccoli with large sprouts ( "giummi") and edible leaves. The term “Assassunati” derives from an ancient sauce (very cheap) used by Jewish communities on Sicily and then used from the "Monsù" (French chefs), to season ( "assaisonner") vegetables (see brochure published dall'aapit "Kitchen history and traditions "). The main ingredient of this sauce are the excellent Sicilian olive oil and garlic.

In Palermo we cooked with the assassunata sauce, the "sparacelli", the "broccoli" (cauliflower), the "giri" (chard) etc. The kind of pasta that is used for this dish is the “bucatini”, much appreciated in the kitchen of Palermo, perhaps because when you eat makes “u scrusciu” (noise), is certainly not a very refined image, but is part of our culture!
Ingredients:
Sparacelli, extra virgin olive oil, two anchovy fillets, two cloves of garlic, salt and pepper.

Recipe:

Wash thoroughly the sparacelli. Cut into pieces the sprouts, and the leaves.Boil them for 10-15 minutes in salted water. Remove from water the sparacelli and place them in a dish. Put in a large frying pan olive oil, anchovy and two cloves of garlic cut into large pieces, fry slightly and then add the sparacelli and some 'pepper. Is ready in minutes.

Cook pasta in the cooking water of sparacelli, after ten minutes remove the pasta from the pot and put it in a pan with sauce. Put it in the dishes and… Good appetite!

Oh Jamie, Jamie, Jamie

November 6

I’ve gone on the record more than once as saying I don’t like Top Chef, not because I think it’s a bad show — to be honest, I haven’t watched it enough to judge — but because I think the fans it cultivates are bad for the restaurant world, shifting the focus from food to personalities and drawing a lot of annoying, tittering idiots into my line of vision. But it does provide opportunities for its contestants, so I can’t blame them, or its judges, for taking part.
I hope that Jamie Lauren comes across well. She came across as unusually cool when I met her last year during a trip to San Francisco. Here’s a Q&A I did with her shortly thereafter.
