The Bookseller - 16.05.11- Charlotte Williams
The Bodley Head has acquired a title looking at the operation that searched for, and finally killed, Osama bin Laden, by al-Qaeda expert Peter Bergen.
Publishing director Will Sulkin acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Manhunt from Crown Publishing at Random House US.
The book will include information drawn from CNN's national security analyst Bergen's contacts, such as the US Navy Seals, CIA operation officers, members of the National Security Council and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. It will also include on-the-ground reporting, as Bergen also has access to many of the key figures in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Manhunt will be published in April 2012.
Sulkin said: "After the death of Osama bin Laden the New York Times recommended eight books by way of background—two of them by CNN's national security analyst Peter Bergen.
"No other commentator has better contacts within US politics, the military and security organisations. This will undoubtedly be the definitive account of the manhunt that killed the world's most wanted man."
