Elderly couple threatened to shoot neighbour over cat droppings

Police said they arrested an elderly Cumberland County couple after they threatened a neighbour in a dispute over cat faeces.

North Middleton Township police said 83-year-old Harold Rought and 89-year-old Ruth Rought told officers by phone and in person that they were going to shoot the neighbour for putting the faeces on their property.

The Rought's had been feeding stray cats in their Pennsylvania Avenue neighbourhood, police said.

The couple were arrested on Wednesday afternoon and released after processing. Police said the pair will receive charges of terroristic threats and harassment by mail.
