Thoughts on education.

Today, I started reading the book "Fundamentals of Christian Education" by Ellen G. White with my worship (which I am trying to be better about). Since I started this new school job and would eventually like to have children, I thought it would be good reading material for me to ingest. I wanted to share a couple paragraphs with you this morning that really showed me what is going on in our world today through the government education system.

Pg. 16 "A child may be so trained as to have, like the beast, no will of his own. Even his individuality may to merged into the one who superintends his training; his will, to all intents and purposes, is subject to the will of the teacher. Children who are thus educated will ever be deficient in moral energy and individual responsibility." Pg. 17 " The severe training of youth, without properly directing them to think and act for themselves as their own capacity and turn of mind will allow, that by this means they may have growth of thought, feelings of self-respect, and confidence in their own ability to perform, will ever produce a class who are weak in mental and moral power. And when they stand in the world to act for themselves, they will reveal the fact that they are trained, like the animals, and not educated. Their wills, instead of being guided, were forced into subjection by harsh discipline of parents and teachers." (3rd paragraph, pg 17) " When these youth are no longer under their parents and teachers, and are compelled to think and act for themselves, they are almost sure to take a wrong course, and yield to the power of temptation."

Wow, doesn't that paint of picture of how our society as a whole is acting today? Those of us with children or in the educational field have such a huge and solemn responsibility to God and to these children to guide them, instead of force them into what is right.
